Sakina Thakur was released from jail after serving only 30 per cent of a two-year jail sentence, when on December 14, 2001, his family took over his three-bedroom bungalow, located in a quiet neighbourhood on the outskirts of Delhi’s national capital.

On Friday, November 21, he was transferred to an institution for the criminally insane, a move that brought the case to the police’s notice. The police’s office in Kolkata, however, maintained that it had not received an official order from Delhi’s Chief Minister Anandiben Patel.

Thakur, however, said as per the directions of Patel, no transfer order had been sent to the authorities in Kolkata and he could not be informed of any new order. The Kolkata police, however, denied having received any such order from Anandiben Patel regarding Thakur’s case.

“I filed a police complaint against Praneet in January last year. They have arrested me and are interrogating me. Since then, my house has been raided,” said Thakur.

Meanwhile, the police have also arrested Soman, a resident of Chandigarh, for his alleged involvement in the illegal detention.

“This is yet another case in a chain of similar cases involving members of our security team,” said a senior official with Kolkata police.

“We are seeking special investigations team to probe into the illegal detention of our security men, including the five constables. When such cases arise, I have learnt to be careful with my security personnel,” he said.

“Our team has been working without any problems for 13 straight years. If there is any kind of problem, I would have to take stringent action,” said the official.
